Management

Michael Rice, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Mike Rice became president and chief executive officer and a member of our board of directors in August 2006, and Chairman in August 2007.  He has more than 20 years of leadership and entrepreneurial experience in the medical and high tech industries. He was most recently the senior business development manager for medical and wireless products at AMI Semiconductor (NASDAQ:AMIS). Mr. Rice also served as the director of marketing and business development at Cardiac Science, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCX), a manufacturer of automated external defibrillators. Prior to that, he was the Vice President, Sales and Marketing for TEGRIS Corporation, a privately held network services provider. Mr. Rice also spent 12 years at Physio Control Corporation in several sales and marketing management roles prior to its acquisition by Medtronic Inc.

Aby J. Mathew, Ph.D., Director of Strategic Relations

Dr. Mathew joined BioLife in 2000 and is a co-developer of our preservation media products. He is a co-inventor in four patents related to methods and formulations for the preservation of cells, tissues, and organs. He holds a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the State University of New York at Binghamton and B.S. in Microbiology from Cornell University.  Dr. Mathew drives our key supplier, contract manufacturing, and customer relationships and has co-authored several of the Company’s recent patent applications.

Ian B. Nicoud, Ph.D., Director of Technology and Business Development

Dr. Nicoud served as an intellectual property and technology consultant for BioLife and joined the Company in September 2007. He has a strong background in transplantation medicine and preservation biology and holds a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Vanderbilt University and a B.S. in Biology from Saint Norbert College. He is a co-author of several of the Company’s recent patent applications and manages our intellectual property portfolio and technology licensing activities.

Dominic Clarke, Ph.D., Director of Research & Development

Dr. Clarke joined BioLife in 2007 and brings an extensive background in the field of low temperature biology. He has authored or co-authored several scientific papers detailing the effects of cold stress and freezing temperatures on cell survival. Dr. Clarke has been the Principal Investigator on multiple NIH SBIR funded grants. He holds a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the State University of New York at Binghamton and performed his post-doctoral studies in the field of Cellular and Developmental Biology at Syracuse University Upstate Medical Center. In addition to directing our research and product development activities, Dr. Clarke has co-authored several of the Company’s recent patent applications.
