Toxicity Testing
The toxicity testing arena utilizes cell models to adequately
provide a standard of testing for evaluation of drugs and
cosmetics that minimizes costs and limits the use of animal
studies. Inherent in the accuracy of these cell models is the
ability of the cell model to maintain cell characterization and
represent cellular responses indicative of consumer use.
Cell model systems utilized for testing are often cryopreserved
to maintain a bank of cells for supply purposes. Preservation is
a stress model that often results in loss of cell viability, as
well as a lag in functional return by the cells that survive.
Cryopreservation of cells in traditional media often yields a
cell population model that may differ in multiple parameters
from the characterized cell population prior to preservation.
Our products provide improved preservation outcomes including
increased cell viability that, in turn, enables greater
maintenance of an overall cell model population. Improved
post-thaw yield and function of preserved cells models is of
critical importance to drug and cosmetic testing companies that
rely on toxicity testing to screen potential products.
